Other - Special Event

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (ML) are being incorporated into the software we use and the businesses we manage. ML is a great tool for recognizing patterns and making predictions in our business processes. But how will project managers manage these systems, and what are the drawbacks? In this session, we will see how to easily train an ML algorithm and discuss the implications for our profession.

Lego4scrum is an excellent hands-on activity that has introduced thousands of teams and Scrum masters to Scrum and Agile principles.  Professor Scott Christianson will explain how he conducts the same training exercise in a virtual format using the education edition of Minecraft. Our world seems to be getting smarter, thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT). Cheap electronics, a robust set of tools, and growing libraries of projects have enabled our surroundings to become "smart" and have empowered every day innovators. IoT tools allow project managers to have more data and control of their projects and costs. We will discuss how and what to look out for!

Do project managers have an obligation to understand and mitigate the climate issues in their projects? Should we consider the climate in terms of project or product risk? Or both? Many of our projects involve processes that release tons of CO2 and other gasses into the atmosphere. Yet much of the infrastructure that we build will operate for decades and release much more. What is the Total Cost of Carbon (TCC) for our projects? How can technology help with mitigation, forecasting, and post-project assessment? We will highlight current best practices and approaches project managers are taking.
