January 2026 – Introduction to Stage-Gate: A Framework for Project Success
Session Description:
This session will provide an introduction to Stage-Gate and the simple, yet powerful framework it provides. This presentation includes basics as well as a few experiences the presenter, John Finley, encountered during his work in large corporations in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Jefferson City. John will explain the basics of working within an environment that utilizes Stage-Gate, including the pros, cons, and costs. John will also describe a novel implementation of Stage-Gate used to rescue a failing project. Through these experiences John will highlight the advantages and costs Stage-Gate can bring to your organization and/or to your projects.

About the speaker:
John Finley is a Senior Project Manager with 25+ years of experience in large-scale software development utilizing Agile, Waterfall, Stage-Gate, and Earned Value Management, as well as proprietary methodologies and techniques. John has managed project budgets in excess of 35M and worked within a PMO responsible for 137M budget and 200+ IT staff. John has completed projects for several Fortune 500 clients, the states of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri, as well as Federal clients. John is currently working as Project Director for a Missouri state agency in Jefferson City.
